So your Reel flopped - now what?

We’ve all been there before: you spend hours creating and filming the perfect Reel, you do all your community engagement before posting, everything is PERFECT and so you’re ready to hit Post - phiewf you’re done!

But uh oh … it happens… or rather it doesn’t happen.

You wait, you engage a little more, and nothing happens - not a single cricket chirps at all your efforts. You’re probably furious, flummoxed or even feel like giving up on The ‘Gram completely.

We’ve all been there before and will be the first to admit: it doesn’t feel great.

So we’ve put together a quick list below on what to do when your Post flops and things just aren’t going your way today on Instagram. A reminder that wea encourage you to reach out to us if you have questions on this topic or need a few pointers, we’re always here to help.

Ok so let’s get to it:

Step One: Do Not Panic! One failed post isn’t going to make or break your Instagram account and it’s not going to piss off the IG Gods so that your content is never seen again… it’s ok!

Step Two: Let’s Dissect This a wee bit. Take a look at your Analytics Page within the Instagram app and check what your peak posting times are. Did you post during one of these times or was it a time that is very different from your norm? Remember, the Algorithm likes predictable behavior so posting at times when you don’t normally could throw it off a little.

Step Two B: Engagement. Did you skip out on this crucial step? We can’t stress enough how integral it is to each and every post to engage engage ENGAGE! If you don’t have the time to properly engage with your current Followers, within your own Feed and also with Stories then we recommend saving that awesome piece of content for when you do actually have the time. This can drastically impact your Views and Comments - don’t even get Dana started on the importance of this!

Step Three: What do you do next? You can try a couple different techniques to try and reinvigorate the seemingly flopped post. 1) wait it out. Wait at least 24 hours before posting again on your feed. This is unconfirmed by Meta, but from experience you Instagram account analytics reset after 24 hours so by waiting it out you may be able to start engaging again and “re-activate” that seemingly flopped Post simply by engaging with different accounts on the platform. 2) Don’t worry about it and move on to your next wicked piece of content - not every song by Adele is a banger and we all still love her! 3) And finally, if you messed up the post in some way - we know them Reels be glitchy - you can archive it and start again. Not ideal, but we’ve seen captions not load on screen, a completely zippy frame or no audio added in. It’s not you friend, it’s the Gram and it’s ok to be super frustrated by this!

Remember: It’s just an app - it’s NOT your entire business! And also that building a successful Instagram page takes a lot of time, a lot of learning and most importantly a lot of patience. It’s super important to learn from our audience’s feedback, or sometimes the lack thereof.

As always, thanks so much for being here and we will see you on The ‘Gram! → @sociallyacceptablemedia
